History

For over 20 years Cotterill & Rouse has been providing food lovers both in New Zealand and internationally with a range of gourmet chutneys, relishes, dressings and sauces.

Cotterill & Rouse was founded in 1989 by two East Coast farming women Lesley Cotterill and Dorothy Rouse. During the rural downturn of the late eighties Lesley and Dorothy began pickling and selling the abundant local produce surrounding the Cotterill’s 1335 hectare sheep and cattle station “Makarika”.

The unique location, product and “can do” attitude of Lesley and Dorothy soon caught the attention of national media, politicians and advertising agencies and stories of the Cotterill & Rouse cottage industry started to appear in national newspapers and ad campaigns. Needless to say, the demand outgrew the homestead kitchen!

More than 20 years, on Cotterill & Rouse has grown their range of unique, gourmet retail products. Cotterill & Rouse products are still produced using only the finest quality ingredients, in handmade batches and by dedicated staff. The vision for the company also remains the same – to create interesting and delicious products that have the ability to transform any meal into a gourmet sensation.
